No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A family dispute on the night of Holika Dahan ended in a brutal killing in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur town, where a man allegedly hacked his father to death with an axe and dumped the body in a water tank beside their house. The accused was arrested the same night, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crime.
The victim, identified as Paras Kerketta, around 50, lived separately from his son, Prabhat Kerketta alias Leda, with two rented houses between their residences. According to preliminary information, Prabhat returned home around 11 pm in an intoxicated state. His father objected and reprimanded him, which soon escalated into a heated argument.
In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly picked up an axe kept inside the house and struck his father multiple times on the head. Paras sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. After the assault, Prabhat is said to have dragged the body and thrown it into a small water tank located next to the house in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
Investigators said that after disposing of the body, the accused went to a nearby shop, ate biryani and returned home, where he covered himself with a blanket and went to sleep. Police later took him into custody, and during questioning, he reportedly admitted to attacking his father in anger.
A relative of the deceased confirmed that the younger son had killed his father and thrown the body into the tank. The investigating officer stated that the father was attacked on the head with a sharp weapon and died as a result of the injuries. Police are continuing their probe into the case.
