Panic gripped the Madhyamgram area of North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday after a massive fire broke out outside Madhyamgram Railway Station, engulfing several shops and disrupting train services. The blaze spread rapidly, reducing multiple roadside establishments to ashes within a short span of time and sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started suddenly and spread to nearby shops within minutes, intensifying before firefighters could bring it under control. Three fire engines rushed to the spot and began operations to douse the flames. However, at the time of reporting, the fire had not been completely contained, and efforts were ongoing.
The dense smoke caused by the blaze affected railway operations in the area. As a precautionary measure, train services on the Madhyamgram–Bangaon and Sealdah–Hasnabad branches under Eastern Railway were temporarily suspended to ensure passenger safety.
