CM Mamata walks the ‘ghosts’ of Bhawanipur on dharna stage, warns BJP of the ‘court of people’

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee strongly criticised the BJP and the Election Commission during a protest at Dharmatala, raising concerns over the alleged deletion of thousands of voters from the electoral rolls of Bhabanipur. Addressing supporters from the dharna stage on Saturday, Banerjee said the issue would be taken to the “court of the people,” asserting that if others remain silent, “Bengal will fight.”

The controversy erupted after the final SIR voter list reportedly showed that nearly 47,000 names from the Bhawanipur constituency had been omitted. The Trinamool Congress alleged that several legitimate voters had been removed from the rolls. At the protest, some residents whose names were missing were brought forward as examples to support the party’s claims.

Banerjee accused the BJP of using the Election Commission to influence the electoral process and claimed that the constitutional rights of voters were being undermined. She argued that the removal of names from the list contradicted democratic principles and questioned why voters possessing Aadhaar cards were still excluded from the rolls.

Launching a sharp political attack, Banerjee compared the situation to “demonetisation of votes,” alleging that the BJP was attempting to weaken democracy and the Constitution. She said the people of West Bengal would respond to such actions in the upcoming political battles and reiterated her demand for justice for the affected voters.
