A major fire broke out early in the morning at a market located next to platform number 1 of Gobardanga railway station, destroying several shops and causing significant damage. The blaze started around dawn, quickly spreading through the row of stalls situated beside the platform area.
Local residents noticed the flames and immediately alerted the authorities. Two fire engines rushed to the scene and began efforts to bring the fire under control, while many local people also joined in trying to contain the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading further.
The fire created chaos around the station area during busy office hours, affecting passengers who rely on the railway services for daily commuting. Thick smoke and emergency operations around the platform disrupted normal movement near the station premises.
Initial estimates suggest that the damage caused by the fire could run into several lakh rupees, as many small shops were completely gutted. Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the loss while firefighting operations were ongoing to fully control the blaze.
