A woman was killed and five others were seriously injured after a speeding tanker went out of control and caused a series of collisions in the Narendrapur area under Jagatballavpur police station on Tuesday. The accident triggered panic in the locality as the heavy vehicle rammed multiple vehicles moving on the road.
Eyewitnesses said the tanker suddenly lost control while travelling at high speed and began hitting vehicles on the road. It first crashed into an engine van carrying passengers and then violently struck two motorcycles. In the collision, a woman riding one of the bikes, identified as Jamima Yasmin, died on the spot.
Following the accident, local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. All five injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police later reached the scene, brought the situation under control and seized the tanker involved in the crash. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
