Tension gripped Gangarampur in Dakshin Dinajpur district after a teacher at a primary school was accused of sexually abusing a Class 2 student. The allegation sparked strong protests from parents and local residents, who gathered outside the school and locked the main gate demanding immediate action against the accused teacher.
According to the complaint, the incident reportedly occurred last Friday when the teacher allegedly called the young student closer on the pretext of showing cartoons on a mobile phone. The child later informed her parents about the incident after returning home, prompting the family to file a written complaint at the local police station.
As news of the allegation spread, hundreds of guardians and residents assembled outside the school to protest. They locked the school gate and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused teacher, warning of a larger movement if action was not taken promptly. Police from the Gangarampur police station later arrived and intervened to bring the situation under control.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation has begun based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family. Reports indicate that the accused teacher was not present at the school after the incident and had already left the area, while police are continuing efforts to trace him.
