Battery stolen from police vehicle near EM Bypass; CCTV footage scanned to trace culprits

In a brazen incident in Kolkata, miscreants stole the battery from a police vehicle parked near the EM Bypass, triggering concern within the police department. The theft, which directly targeted a vehicle used for law enforcement duties, has prompted an investigation by Survey Park Police Station.

Following the discovery of the theft, a formal complaint was lodged and police launched a search operation to identify those responsible. The incident has drawn attention due to the audacity of criminals targeting a police vehicle itself.

According to police sources, the vehicle is operated by three different drivers in separate shifts. On the night of the incident, one of the drivers had parked the vehicle on East Rajapur Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of Survey Park Police Station, after completing his duty.

The next morning, another police personnel conducting a routine inspection before beginning duty noticed that the battery from the engine compartment was missing. The driver was immediately contacted but was unable to provide any clear information about when the theft might have occurred.

Senior officials from the East Division were informed, after which a special team searched nearby scrap yards and other suspicious locations in an attempt to recover the stolen battery. However, no breakthrough has been made so far.

Preliminary findings suggest that no driver or security personnel was present near the vehicle at the time of the incident. Police are now examining CCTV footage from East Rajapur Road and nearby routes to identify the culprits. The case has been registered against unknown persons, and investigators suspect the involvement of a gang involved in stealing vehicle parts.
