Train services on the Balurghat–Kolkata route were disrupted on Thursday morning after an overhead electric wire snapped near Deotala village in Gazole block of Malda district in North Bengal. The incident occurred around 6.30 a.m., bringing train movement on the line to a sudden halt and leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
Due to the disruption in power supply to the railway line, the Sealdah–Balurghat Express remained halted at Gazole station for nearly two hours. The Tebhaga Express, which was scheduled to depart from Balurghat for Kolkata at 6.55 a.m., also failed to arrive on time, causing significant inconvenience to passengers travelling on the route.
Railway officials later carried out repair work to restore the damaged overhead line. After the technical fault was resolved, train services gradually resumed and normal movement on the route was restored.
