Two Indians killed, 10 injured in drone attack in Oman amid rising Gulf tensions: MEA

Two Indian nationals were killed and ten others injured in an attack in Muscat on Friday, the government confirmed, amid rising tensions across the Gulf region. The incident occurred in the Sohar area, where authorities reported an attack that left several foreign nationals among the casualties.

According to officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, the incident resulted in the deaths of two Indian citizens, while ten others sustained injuries. Assistance Secretary for the Gulf, Aseem R Mahajan, confirmed the casualties and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

Authorities said that five of the injured Indian nationals have already been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment, while the remaining five are currently undergoing medical care. Officials added that none of the injured individuals are reported to be in serious condition.

Reports indicate that drones fell in the Sohar province, with one reportedly striking the Al-Awahi Industrial Area, resulting in casualties and injuries. Another drone reportedly landed in an open area without causing harm. Authorities in Oman have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances behind the incident.

The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing Iran–Israel–US conflict. Indian officials said the government is also closely monitoring the safety of Indian seafarers operating in Gulf waters, where thousands of Indian nationals are currently employed on merchant and offshore vessels.
