No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Security forces successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir's Uri sector during the intervening night of March 14 and 15. The joint operation was launched in the Buchhar area of Baramulla district following high-grade intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding the movement of armed terrorists. Acting swiftly, alert troops of the Indian Army laid a strategic ambush in the rugged terrain to intercept the intruders before they could move deeper into the valley.
During the late-night surveillance, soldiers using advanced night-vision equipment spotted a suspected terrorist hiding within the dense vegetation. As the security personnel readjusted their tactical positions and challenged the individual, the suspect opened indiscriminate fire, leading to a fierce but brief exchange of gunfire. The professional response of the troops ensured that the threat was neutralized quickly without any casualties on the side of the Indian forces.
Official reports confirmed that one Pakistani terrorist was killed in the encounter. Following the shootout, a search of the area led to the recovery of significant war-like stores, including a sophisticated assault rifle and grenades. The identity of the slain terrorist is being verified, though preliminary evidence suggests he was part of a larger group attempting to sneak across the border under the cover of darkness and difficult weather conditions.
