Special meeting in Medinipur to address LPG shortage; strict vigil ordered on black marketing

Amid concerns over an inadequate supply of LPG cylinders across the state, the Medinipur district administration held a special meeting to review the situation and ensure uninterrupted supply to essential institutions. The meeting was convened late Saturday evening at the District Magistrate’s office by District Magistrate Vijin Krishna and was attended by Superintendent of Police Palash Chandra Dhali along with representatives from various gas companies.

During the meeting, officials held detailed discussions on the district’s gas supply and distribution mechanism. The District Magistrate stated that the initiative was taken following directives issued by the Chief Minister after a meeting with oil marketing companies at Nabanna, where instructions were given to form district-level committees to monitor LPG supply.

Gas companies and dealers were directed to prioritise the supply of LPG cylinders to important institutions such as Anganwadi centres, hostels of educational institutions, schools and hospitals. At the same time, authorities stressed that domestic consumers should not face disruption in their regular gas supply.

Representatives of gas companies informed the administration that they are trying to maintain the same level of supply that was available in February. However, they reported technical glitches in the booking portal due to a sudden surge in simultaneous bookings by consumers. The District Magistrate appealed to the public not to book cylinders beyond their actual requirement, while the administration and police continue strict vigilance to prevent black marketing and the spread of rumours.
