US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch additional strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, suggesting that future attacks might occur “just for fun.” The remark came a day after he claimed American forces had “obliterated” targets on the strategic island, which plays a crucial role in Iran’s oil export network.
Speaking in an interview, Trump said US strikes had severely damaged the island but indicated that further action remained possible. “We totally demolished Kharg Island, but we may hit it a few more times just for fun,” he said, while reiterating that American forces avoided targeting energy infrastructure directly.
Kharg Island serves as the primary terminal managing a major portion of Iran’s crude oil exports, making it one of the most significant locations in the country’s energy system. The island lies roughly 300 miles northwest of the Strait of Hormuz and is considered a vital hub for shipping Iranian oil to global markets.
Earlier, US Central Command said it had carried out “precision strikes” on about 90 military targets on the island. According to the military statement, the operations focused on strategic military installations while deliberately preserving the island’s oil export infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities accused the United States of launching the strikes from locations in the United Arab Emirates and warned that attacks on Iran’s oil and energy facilities could trigger retaliatory strikes on infrastructure linked to American interests in the region. Tensions between the two countries continue to escalate as the conflict in the region deepens.
