By-elections will be held in several constituencies across six states following the deaths of sitting representatives who previously held office in those areas. The elections will take place in two phases in April, with authorities scheduling polling on different dates to manage the electoral process efficiently.
Polling in constituencies located in Goa, Karnataka, Tripura and Nagaland will take place on April 9, 2026. These by-polls are being conducted to fill vacancies created after the demise of the elected candidates who were serving in these constituencies.
Meanwhile, constituencies in Gujarat and Maharashtra will go to the polls later in the month. Voting in these states has been scheduled for April 23, 2026, as part of the second phase of the by-election process.
Election authorities have initiated the by-election process to ensure representation in the affected constituencies after the unexpected vacancies. The polls aim to elect new representatives who will serve the remaining term in the respective legislative bodies.
