Dilip Ghosh warns of a potential attack on Kalighat, stokes controversy

Dilip Ghosh, while speaking to reporters during his morning walk at Eco Park on Sunday, addressed the recent attack on state minister Dr. Shashi Panja’s residence. In a direct challenge that has sent shockwaves through the ruling camp, Ghosh warned, "If Shashi Panja’s house can be attacked, then an attack can also happen in Kalighat," referring to the neighborhood that houses Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s private residence.

Ghosh’s comments come on the heels of controversial remarks made by actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty during a high-profile BJP rally at Brigade Parade Ground. Chakraborty reportedly suggested that the TMC leadership might soon be "sending speeches from the ICU," a comment the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has labeled "toxic" and "outrageous." The TMC leadership argues that these statements are not isolated incidents but a coordinated effort by the BJP to incite violence and create a climate of fear ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Minister Shashi Panja, whose residence was allegedly targeted by stone-pelters on Saturday, condemned Ghosh’s remarks as a "murderous conspiracy." She asserted that the BJP is resorting to "threat politics" because they lack a solid organizational footing in the state. Other senior TMC leaders joined the chorus, describing Ghosh’s language as unparliamentary and contrary to Bengal’s political culture. They claimed that the BJP’s aggression stems from desperation and internal infighting, which they are trying to mask with inflammatory rhetoric.
