Big tree falls at CR Avenue blocking traffic, roads waterlogged after heavy rain
The latest Matrize-IANS opinion poll has projected a third consecutive victory for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. However, the road to the state secretariat appears significantly more challenging this time. According to the survey, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is expected to secure between 155 and 170 seats, maintaining its majority in the 294-member house.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to make substantial gains, with the poll predicting 100 to 115 seats for the saffron camp, indicating a much tighter electoral contest than in previous years. The survey suggests a complete washout for the Indian National Congress, which is projected to win zero seats.
Meanwhile, the AIMIM+ is expected to make its presence felt by bagging 5 to 6 seats, potentially acting as a minor player in specific minority-dominated regions. These numbers suggest that while Mamata Banerjee's welfare schemes continue to resonate, the BJP's aggressive campaigning has successfully consolidated a massive opposition vote bank, turning the 2026 election into a polarising head-to-head battle.
