Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely to affect Kolkata and several districts across South Bengal in the coming hours, with strong winds expected in some areas. The India Meteorological Department has warned that wind speeds could reach up to 70 kilometres per hour during the storm activity, although no heavy rainfall has been forecast for the region.
Weather officials said the conditions in parts of South Bengal may resemble the seasonal Kalbaisakhi thunderstorms, which are typically accompanied by sudden gusty winds and lightning. A hailstorm alert has also been issued for certain districts, raising the possibility of brief but intense weather disturbances.
While South Bengal may experience scattered thunderstorms, districts in North Bengal are likely to witness heavier rainfall over the same period. The changing weather pattern is expected to bring intermittent rain and storm activity across multiple districts.
On Monday morning, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 23.2 degrees Celsius, around 0.6 degrees above the normal level for this time of the year. Meteorologists have indicated that rainfall in Kolkata is most likely to occur during the evening or late evening hours.
