Internal discontent has surfaced within the Trinamool Congress after the party denied a ticket to four-time Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy for the upcoming Assembly election. Instead, the party nominated athlete-turned-politician Swapna Barman as its candidate from the Rajganj constituency, triggering sharp reactions from Roy and his supporters.
Expressing strong resentment over the decision, Roy said he was deeply hurt despite his long-standing association with the party and years of service as a legislator. In response, the veteran leader announced that he would step down from his position as the Jalpaiguri district chairman of the party.
Roy stated that he had decided to resign from the district chairman’s post, signalling a major setback for the party’s local leadership structure. His reaction highlights growing dissatisfaction within sections of the party after the candidate list was released.
The fallout has also spread to the block level. Reports indicate that several leaders from different organisational wings have submitted their resignations in protest. Among them is Rajganj Block Trinamool Congress president Arindam Banerjee, whose resignation reflects the widening political ripples following the ticket denial.
