Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
The Election Commission of India has ordered the transfer and posting of five IPS officers in West Bengal as part of its poll preparedness for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. The directive, issued to the state government, mandates immediate implementation and submission of a compliance report by 11:00 AM on March 19.
As per the order, Rathod Amitkumar Bharat has been posted as DIG of Raiganj Range, Ajeet Singh Yadav as DIG Murshidabad, Shrihari Pandey as DIG Bardhaman, Kankar Prosad Barui as DIG Presidency Range, and Anjali Singh as DIG Jalpaiguri. The reshuffle is aimed at ensuring administrative neutrality and strengthening law enforcement arrangements during the election process.
The Commission has also directed that officers who are transferred out should not be assigned any election-related responsibilities until the completion of the polls. The move underscores the Commission’s emphasis on maintaining a fair and impartial electoral environment in the run-up to the state elections.
