"Bengal is being targeted": Mamata slams transfer of over 50 officials, calls it 'Undeclared Emergency'

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP, labeling the recent mass transfer of over 50 senior officials as a "calculated attempt to cripple Bengal’s administrative machinery." In an explosive statement, she described the removal of the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP, and several District Magistrates as "political interference of the highest order" rather than standard administrative action. According to the CM, this unprecedented targeting of Bengal indicates an "undeclared emergency" driven by political vendetta.

Mamata Banerjee highlighted the chaos caused by the Commission’s "incompetence," specifically pointing out the removal of the Police Commissioners of Siliguri and Bidhannagar without naming immediate replacements. She argued that leaving vital urban centers "effectively headless" reflects a lack of governance and a deliberate design to seize control of the state through institutional manipulation. The CM further alleged that the ECI is operating under an "uncomfortable submission to political interests," directly assaulting the Constitution and the impartiality of democratic institutions.

The Chief Minister also raised concerns over the delay in publishing supplementary electoral rolls, claiming it disregards Supreme Court directions and leaves citizens in a state of uncertainty. She questioned the BJP’s "desperation" in forcing citizens to prove their citizenship even after 78 years of independence. By selectively removing officers from critical agencies like the IB, STF, and CID, Banerjee claims the Centre is attempting to impose a form of "unpromulgated President’s Rule" because they have failed to win the trust of the people of Bengal.
