No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, two teenagers lost their lives after drowning in the Damodar River near the Becharhat cremation area under Burdwan police station. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM when a group of five youngsters had gone to bathe in the river. The deceased have been identified as Abhijit Das (15) and Aditya Dey (13), both residents of the local cremation area.
According to available information, the group had accompanied Abhijit’s grandmother, who had gone to the river earlier. While bathing, three of the youngsters suddenly began to struggle in the water. Panic ensued as locals rushed to help. A teenage girl was rescued from the river, but despite efforts, Abhijit and Aditya could not be saved in time.
The two were immediately taken to Burdwan Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. Police personnel from Burdwan police station reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and initiated necessary procedures. The incident has left the families devastated, with grief engulfing the local community as shock and mourning spread across the area.
