A shocking case of alleged rape and torture has surfaced in Siliguri after a young woman claimed she was held captive inside a hotel room for three days by her boyfriend and subjected to brutal physical abuse. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Abhinav Ghosh, a resident of Naxalbari, following the victim’s complaint.
According to police sources, the accused had met the woman through social media about a year ago, and the two later developed a relationship. Last Tuesday, Ghosh allegedly took the woman to a well-known hotel in the checkpost area of Siliguri under the pretext of hosting a party. After booking a room, he allegedly tied her hands, legs and face and subjected her to repeated rape and severe physical assault.
Investigators said the woman endured continuous torture for nearly three days, during which she was allegedly beaten and burned with cigarettes. Police officers who later saw the victim reported deep injury marks and burns across her body. The alleged ordeal continued until Wednesday night when the accused untied her after she complained of feeling unwell.
Seizing the opportunity, the woman managed to escape from the hotel and rushed to Bhaktinagar police station in an injured state to seek help. Based on her statement, police conducted an immediate raid and arrested the accused the same night. He was produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Thursday, where the judge ordered four days of police custody. The victim is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, while questions are being raised about the hotel’s security and surveillance systems.
