Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee officially released the party's election manifesto for the 2026 Assembly polls on Friday, outlining a massive welfare and infrastructure roadmap. Key highlights include the transition of all temporary (katcha) houses into permanent (pukka) structures and ensuring tap water connections for every household. In a major healthcare expansion, the Chief Minister announced the 'Duare Chikitsa' (Doctors at Doorstep) scheme, aiming to bring medical facilities directly to citizens' homes, mirroring the success of her previous outreach programs.
Addressing economic concerns, Mamata Banerjee emphasised that the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' financial assistance scheme will never be discontinued. She claimed that the state government has already facilitated 2 crore jobs and positioned West Bengal as a top destination for global trade, citing investment proposals worth lakhs of crores. Furthermore, she promised the creation of 7 to 10 new districts to decentralise administration and improve governance across the state. The manifesto was notably released in six different languages to reach the state's diverse linguistic population.
The education sector also received significant attention, with plans to modernise thousands of schools and initiate fresh teacher recruitments. The Chief Minister pointed out that legal hurdles created by some individuals in court have hindered the recruitment process in the past. On the energy front, she highlighted the 'Deocha Pachami' coal project, asserting it would ensure a surplus electricity supply for West Bengal for the next 100 years. She also assured that any pending old-age pension payments would be cleared promptly.
