• Suvendu Adhikari visits Mahishadal police station over alleged political pressure on BJP leader
• BJP claims OC Piyushkanti Mandal asked Vishwanath Banerjee to join Trinamool Congress
• Allegation sparks fresh political tension between BJP and ruling party in Bengal
West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited the Mahishadal Police Station and issued a strong warning to the police, alleging political interference and intimidation. The BJP leader claimed that a senior police officer had attempted to influence a local party leader to switch allegiance to the ruling Trinamool Congress.
According to Adhikari, Piyushkanti Mandal, the Officer-in-Charge of Mahishadal Police Station, allegedly called BJP leader Vishwanath Banerjee and asked him to join the Trinamool Congress. Banerjee had contested the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election as a BJP candidate from the area.
Adhikari raised the issue publicly during his visit to the police station and criticised what he described as the misuse of the police machinery for political purposes. He warned that such actions would not be tolerated and demanded that law enforcement agencies remain politically neutral.
The allegations have triggered fresh political tension in the region, with the BJP accusing the ruling party of using administrative pressure against opposition leaders. The police have not yet publicly responded to the claims, and the matter is likely to intensify political debate in the state.
