• Youth steals Kolkata Police ‘Karma’ ambulance from Survey Park using master key
• Patrol officers chase vehicle for nearly one kilometre before intercepting it in Patuli
• Accused Rahim Sheikh arrested and later sent to jail custody by court
A police ambulance was allegedly stolen from the Survey Park area of South Kolkata, triggering a brief chase before officers managed to recover the vehicle and arrest the accused. The incident occurred when two policemen on patrol noticed a Kolkata Police ‘Karma’ ambulance moving at high speed through the Patuli area with its lights on.
Suspicious of the unusual movement, the officers attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver increased speed and tried to flee, prompting the policemen to chase the ambulance. After pursuing the vehicle for nearly a kilometre, the officers managed to intercept it and detain the driver. Police later identified the accused as Rahim Sheikh, a resident of the Park Circus area. Investigators recovered a ‘master key’ from his pocket, which he allegedly used to unlock the ambulance and drive away with the vehicle from the Survey Park area.
The accused was initially taken to Patuli police station and later handed over to Survey Park police. During questioning, he reportedly behaved in a manner suggesting mental instability. However, police said the recovery of the master key indicates a deliberate attempt to steal the police vehicle. Rahim Sheikh has been sent to jail custody following a court order.
