Nitish Kumar becomes JDU national president for 5th consecutive time, elected unopposed

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been elected unopposed as the national president of the Janata Dal (United) for the fifth consecutive time, reaffirming his position at the helm of the party. The party confirmed that since Nitish Kumar’s was the only valid nomination remaining, the returning officer would formally issue his certificate of election. A press conference has been scheduled at the party’s national headquarters in Delhi, where senior leaders are expected to be present to mark the occasion.

Senior party figures, including working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, stated that the decision reflects a collective demand from party workers and leaders who wanted Nitish Kumar to continue leading the organisation. Other leaders echoed similar sentiments, describing him as a guiding figure whose leadership remains central to the party’s direction and functioning.

The development comes shortly after Nitish Kumar’s election to the Rajya Sabha, further consolidating his role at both organisational and parliamentary levels. Multiple leaders had filed nominations on his behalf earlier, but no rival candidature emerged, ensuring a smooth and unanimous selection process.

Meanwhile, internal discussions within the party have continued on other organisational matters, with senior leader K. C. Tyagi clarifying that there were no personal differences with Nitish Kumar despite speculation around recent developments. The re-election signals continuity in leadership as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
