NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
Panic and confusion gripped West Bengal late Tuesday night after a massive technical glitch on the Election Commission of India (ECI) website mislabelled the status of thousands of voters. As the commission released its first supplementary voter list for the 2026 Assembly elections, high-profile names were caught in the crosshairs of a server error. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) pointed out that the status of their All India General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, was shown as "Pending" or "Under Adjudication," while the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, saw his name marked as "Deleted."
The glitch caused widespread alarm as valid voters searching for their EPIC numbers found themselves listed as being "under trial" or "under consideration," despite having cleared all prior verification processes. For several hours, the CEO West Bengal portal appeared to put the entire state's electorate "under adjudication," leading to a social media firestorm. The TMC was quick to react, accusing the commission of creating unnecessary panic and questioning the transparency of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The Election Commission eventually addressed the situation, clarifying that the discrepancies were the result of a temporary technical error or server malfunction. According to officials, the problem was identified and resolved by midnight on Tuesday. The commission maintained that the "Deleted" and "Under Adjudication" statuses shown during that window were inaccurate and caused by a sync issue while the supplementary data was being uploaded to the public portal.
