The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal against senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Ghosh, accusing him of threatening police personnel during an election rally in Kharagpur. The development comes amid escalating political tensions ahead of the Assembly elections.
In its complaint, the TMC alleged that a video circulating on social media shows Ghosh making intimidating and allegedly violent remarks directed at the Inspector-in-Charge of Kharagpur police station. The party claimed that such statements undermine the neutrality of law enforcement officials deployed on election duty.
The TMC further stated that the remarks violate provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the Model Code of Conduct enforced during elections. It has demanded immediate legal action against Ghosh and urged authorities to restrain him from making similar statements targeting police personnel.
The party also pointed out that this was not an isolated incident, referring to an earlier complaint filed on March 16 in which Ghosh was accused of issuing threats against party leaders, workers, and civilians in parts of Kolkata. As of now, no official response has been issued by Dilip Ghosh regarding the allegations.
