A gruesome discovery in Hooghly’s Bhadreswar has triggered panic after the throat-slit body of an unidentified young man was found inside a sealed blue drum. The incident, which came to light on Wednesday morning, has drawn chilling comparisons to a similar high-profile murder case in Meerut, intensifying concerns among residents.
The drum was spotted lying in a suspicious condition near Delhi Road in the Shwetpur area under Bhadreswar police station limits. Locals alerted the police, who reached the spot and opened the tightly sealed drum. Inside, they found a blood-soaked body wrapped in a sack, with the victim’s throat slit and parts of the body partially burnt.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder may not have taken place at the recovery site. Police suspect the body was dumped in the area under the cover of darkness in an attempt to conceal the crime. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and nearby police stations have been alerted to assist in identification.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as investigators probe multiple angles, including possible attempts to destroy evidence. The shocking nature of the crime has left the locality tense, while police continue efforts to trace those responsible and establish the sequence of events.
