Kolkata restricts goods vehicles during Ram Navami celebrations on March 26–27

The Kolkata Police has issued a traffic notification imposing restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles across Kolkata in view of the upcoming Ram Navami celebrations. The order was issued by Police Commissioner Ajay Nand to ensure public safety and convenience during the festival processions scheduled on March 26 and March 27, 2026.

According to the notification, the movement of all types of goods vehicles within the city will be restricted from 12:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on March 26. On March 27, the restriction will remain in force from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Authorities said the temporary regulation is intended to manage traffic congestion and maintain order during festival-related gatherings and processions. However, several essential services have been exempted from the restriction. Emergency vehicles and those carrying LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants, oxygen, milk, medicines, vegetables, fish and fruits will be allowed to operate during the restricted hours.

The notification further stated that vehicular traffic along procession routes may be regulated, restricted or diverted depending on the situation. Traffic police on duty will also have the authority to divert vehicles from arterial and feeder roads whenever necessary. Officials clarified that the advisory will remain in force along with the existing traffic regulations.
