No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Police in South Dinajpur’s Gangarampur have arrested two accused within 24 hours in connection with the firing targeting a Trinamool Congress worker, while the main accused remains absconding. The arrests were confirmed during a press conference on Thursday by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shubhotosh Sarkar, with the accused produced in the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Court the same day.
According to preliminary investigation, the firing incident was linked to an old business-related dispute. One empty cartridge case has been recovered from the spot as part of the evidence. The injured Trinamool worker, Shiba Chowdhury, who was targeted in the attack, has since been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
The incident reportedly took place late Tuesday night in front of the Gangarampur police station, triggering tension in the area. Following the complaint filed by the victim’s family, police arrested Manoj Jaiswal and driver Biswajit Kundu on Wednesday. The main accused, identified as Babu Chowdhury, is still on the run, with police conducting multiple raids to trace him and investigating the possibility of more individuals being involved.
