The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has issued a notice to Amul after a passenger complained about spoiled yogurt served onboard the Vande Bharat Express. The complaint, related to the Patna–Tatanagar route and filed on March 15, prompted immediate action from authorities over concerns of food quality.
Taking the matter seriously, IRCTC imposed a heavy fine on the licensed catering contractor responsible for onboard services. The process to terminate the contractor’s license has been initiated, along with steps to blacklist the agency involved.
The Railways also took strict action, imposing a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on IRCTC and Rs 50 lakh on the company providing catering services. Authorities have additionally ordered termination of the contractor’s agreement in response to the lapse.
IRCTC has now sought a formal clarification from Amul regarding the quality issue, as concerns over food safety and service standards on premium trains come under scrutiny.
