The Election Commission of India has suspended three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force after they allegedly entered a local office of the All India Trinamool Congress and played carrom while on patrol duty in Birbhum. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday when the central forces were deployed in the district to maintain law and order during the election period.
According to sources, the jawans were assigned to patrol an area in Birbhum but instead entered a Trinamool Congress party office. They allegedly began chatting with party workers present there, and soon after, a game of carrom started inside the office. Reports suggest that the game continued for nearly an hour while the personnel were on active duty. The incident quickly came to the notice of the Election Commission, which expressed strong displeasure over what it described as “indifferent” and “biased” conduct by the security personnel. After a preliminary inquiry, the Commission ordered the immediate suspension of the three CRPF jawans and directed that departmental proceedings be initiated against them for dereliction of duty and breach of neutrality.
Officials indicated that the Commission is determined to ensure strict discipline among central forces deployed during elections. The presence of armed personnel inside the office of a political party raised concerns about impartiality, prompting swift action. Following the incident, jawans deployed in other parts of the district have also been warned to strictly adhere to their duties.
