A 66-year-old man died in a road accident late Saturday evening on the Belda–Egra State Highway in West Medinipur district. The fatal incident occurred near Asada More under the jurisdiction of Belda Police Station, officials said.
According to police sources, the deceased was identified as Gokul Raul, a resident of the Gurdala area in Narayangarh block. He was traveling from Khakurda towards Belda on a motorcycle when a speeding truck reportedly struck his bike from behind. The impact of the collision was severe, and Raul died on the spot. Local residents informed the authorities soon after the accident, following which police reached the scene and initiated necessary procedures.
Family members said Raul was on his way to visit his ailing brother, who had been admitted to the Belda Super Specialty Hospital. However, the accident occurred before he could reach the hospital. Police recovered the body and said it will be sent to Kharagpur Sub-divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination on Sunday.
