Mamata Banerjee at a rally in Purulia said; “No fish or eggs if BJP comes to power”

TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp political attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party during a rally in Purulia, claiming that people in the state could lose the freedom to eat fish, meat or eggs if the BJP comes to power. Her remarks came as campaigning intensifies ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing supporters at the rally, Banerjee alleged that the BJP promotes a “one-sided” cultural approach and suggested that such policies could affect traditional food habits in Bengal. She argued that dietary choices are part of the region’s identity and warned that people’s lifestyles could change under a different political regime.

The party leader also linked the issue to broader political debates in the state, accusing the opposition of attempting to divide society and disrupt Bengal’s social harmony. She reiterated that the state government respects diverse religious and cultural practices and does not impose restrictions on people’s personal choices. The remarks come as the political campaign in West Bengal intensifies ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April, where all 294 seats of the state legislature will go to polls in two phases.
