BJP denies claims as Trinamool accuses Laxman Gharui of campaign bribery in Durgapur West

A political controversy has emerged in Durgapur West ahead of the assembly elections, with Trinamool Congress alleging that BJP candidate Laxman Gharui violated election rules by distributing money during his campaign. The allegations surfaced after a photograph and video reportedly showing the act were circulated publicly, sparking a heated debate in local political circles.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in the Gurudwara area of Ward No. 18, where Laxman was interacting with voters. It is alleged that he slipped some money into the hands of a person during the campaign. While the exact amount remains unclear, the visual evidence quickly became a focal point for criticism from the ruling party.

Trinamool candidate Kabi Dutta strongly condemned the act, stating, "We also have evidence. We will ask if necessary why he was giving money for the election campaign. But he has violated the election rules." In response, Laxman Gharui denied the allegations, claiming, "We do not distribute money. Trinamool's job is to distribute money. They have not done any development in 15 years."

This is not the first such accusation against BJP candidates in the region. A few days ago, BJP candidate Moumita Biswas Mishra from Burdwan South faced similar allegations, with Trinamool filing a complaint with the Election Commission. The ongoing disputes highlight rising tensions and aggressive campaigning strategies as the assembly elections approach.
