IndiGo has commenced its daily, non-stop flight service between Kolkata and Shanghai, marking a significant step in strengthening air connectivity between India and China. The new route, launched on March 29, is expected to enhance both business and leisure travel between the two countries.
According to the airline, the Kolkata–Shanghai flight will depart daily at 9:45 PM and arrive in Shanghai at 4:40 AM the following day. The return flight will leave Shanghai at 5:40 AM and reach Kolkata at 9:05 AM. The service is being operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft, known for improved fuel efficiency and enhanced passenger comfort.
The launch builds on IndiGo’s recent expansion in China, including the resumption of Kolkata–Guangzhou flights. With this addition, the airline now operates 21 weekly flights connecting India to mainland China, strengthening its international network and connectivity footprint. The new route is expected to provide seamless connectivity for passengers from multiple Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune, via Kolkata.
This is likely to support growing demand for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations. IndiGo officials stated that the service aims to facilitate increased travel opportunities and reinforce economic ties, positioning Kolkata as a key gateway for India–China air travel.
