No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A disturbing incident has emerged from the Kaliachak area of Malda, where a 20-year-old man allegedly died by suicide while on a video call with his parents. The incident has left the local community in shock, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Jabbar, reportedly left his home on Sunday night and went to an open field in the Srirampur area, located about 500 metres away. From there, he initiated a video call with his parents and, during the call, allegedly took the extreme step. His family members, unable to intervene, rushed to the spot immediately after the call ended.
Upon reaching the location, the family found him critically injured and lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has since been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have begun a detailed probe into the incident, focusing on the possible reasons behind the suicide as well as how the young man obtained the firearm. Initial findings indicate that he came from a financially struggling background and worked with his father in making bidis.
