A shocking snatching incident near Shalimar Railway Station in Kolkata has raised fresh concerns over passenger safety after a helmetless biker allegedly grabbed a woman’s bag and fled within seconds. The incident occurred early in the morning shortly after the victim arrived in the city from Asansol.
According to details shared on social media, Swagata Mukherjee and her sister Ishani Das had boarded the Patna Duronto Express at around 2:00 am and reached Shalimar Station at approximately 5:30 am. After exiting the station and booking a cab, the two were waiting across the road near the station’s parking area when the snatching took place. Around 5:44–5:45 am, a biker reportedly approached from behind and swiftly snatched Swagata Mukherjee’s bag before speeding away. CCTV footage of the incident shows the accused grabbing the bag in one motion and fleeing the scene, while the victim is seen trying to chase him but failing to stop the escape.
Personnel from the Government Railway Police present nearby reportedly took the victims inside the station premises and examined the CCTV footage before escorting them to B Garden Police Station, where a First Information Report was filed. The stolen bag reportedly contained important documents, and the victim has alleged that no concrete action has yet been taken, urging authorities to ensure quick recovery.
