Kolkata Police has appointed senior officers as nodal officers for key election responsibilities ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening coordination and administrative preparedness. The order, issued from the Police Directorate at Lalbazar, outlines specific jurisdictional responsibilities for each officer across Kolkata North, Kolkata South, and South 24 Parganas.
As per the order, Joint Commissioner of Police (Modernization) Nilanjan Biswas has been designated as nodal officer for the District Election Officer (DEO), Kolkata North, while Joint Commissioner of Police (Organisation) Ajoy Prasad will oversee responsibilities for DEO, Kolkata South. Joint Commissioner of Police (Armed Police) Subhankar Bhattacharya has been assigned charge of DEO and District Magistrate, South 24 Parganas, reflecting the importance of coordinated deployment in adjoining districts.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department Special) Vidit Raj Bhundesh has been appointed as nodal officer for Model Code of Conduct (MCC) monitoring across all three jurisdictions—Kolkata North, Kolkata South, and South 24 Parganas. The appointments have been made with the approval of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, and are aimed at ensuring smooth enforcement of election protocols and efficient coordination among administrative units.
