NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
High drama and excitement unfolded in front of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Kolkata on Tuesday, shortly after BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had left the premises. A large group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters staged a sit-in protest, alleging that they had caught an individual red-handed attempting to illegally submit hundreds of Form 6 applications—used for new voter registrations. The protesters claimed that this was part of a broader conspiracy to manipulate the electoral rolls in Purba Medinipur.
According to the protesting TMC workers, the individual in question was carrying two large bags filled with documents. Upon being confronted, the person reportedly admitted to having already submitted approximately 400 forms. The TMC supporters alleged that these forms were being funneled into the system from Purba Medinipur to create "fake voters" ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. This follows recent allegations by the TMC leadership, including Abhishek Banerjee, that mass illegal additions are being made to the voter lists while genuine names are being deleted.
The situation quickly escalated into a chaotic scene as a scuffle broke out between the protesters and the police personnel stationed at the CEO's office. The tension was further heightened by the arrival of BJP candidate Santosh Pathak, who reportedly reached the spot with nearly 300 of his own supporters. During the ensuing confrontation, a supporter of Santosh Pathak was allegedly beaten by TMC protesters, leading to a complete breakdown of order at the entrance of the commission's office.
