NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A 65-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was found critically injured and later declared dead in West Bengal’s Nandigram on Thursday, triggering fresh political tensions in the poll-bound state. The deceased, identified as Shaktipada Das, also known as Faring, was discovered lying on a road near his residence in the Bhekutia area with multiple injury marks on his body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the worker was beaten to death, directly accusing the BJP of involvement. However, the BJP has denied the allegations. According to the victim’s family, Das had been threatened a day earlier by alleged rival party supporters for not joining a rally and for planning to accompany a TMC candidate during nomination filing. They claimed that he was attacked while on his way to the event.
Police said Das, a resident of Sripur village under Nandigram Block 1, had left home for work in the morning before being found injured. Authorities have begun an investigation into the incident, while the area remains tense following the discovery of the body and the competing political claims surrounding the death.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over political violence ahead of the Assembly elections, with multiple recent cases of alleged killings involving workers from different parties being reported across the state. The latest development has further intensified the charged atmosphere in Nandigram, a politically sensitive constituency.
