38 served notices over Suvendu nomination day unrest, EC seeks report

Tensions escalated sharply during the nomination of Suvendu Adhikari as police issued notices to 38 individuals in connection with alleged violence and disruption at the venue. Acting on complaints and video evidence, authorities initiated a detailed probe into the incident, intensifying the political atmosphere ahead of the विधानसभा elections.

According to officials, a case was first registered at Alipore Police Station following a complaint from the Election Commission of India. Six individuals associated with the ruling All India Trinamool Congress were summoned for questioning over alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct and attempts to create unrest near the Survey Building during the nomination process.

Police expanded the investigation by registering two additional FIRs at Alipore and Kalighat police stations based on suo motu action. A total of 38 individuals, including members from both the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, have been served notices. Authorities stated that those identified were traced through CCTV footage and video recordings, with the investigation focusing on pinpointing those responsible for planning and executing the disturbance.

Simultaneously, the Election Commission has sought a detailed report from the District Election Officer of South Kolkata regarding statements allegedly made by Suvendu Adhikari. The Commission has asked for video evidence and directed submission within 24 hours, indicating its strict monitoring of election-related conduct.

The political fallout has further intensified, with the Trinamool Congress accusing Adhikari of attempting to intimidate voters by invoking central forces, while the opposition maintains that the incident reflects targeted obstruction. With multiple investigations underway, the episode has added another flashpoint to an already charged election environment in the state.
