Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A large amount of cash was recovered during a night naka checking operation in the Netaji Nagar area of Kolkata, raising suspicion of possible money laundering ahead of the elections. Police seized nearly ₹38 lakh from a car that was intercepted during the checking drive on Saturday night.
According to officials, the vehicle was approaching from the Alipore direction when officers stationed at the checkpoint became suspicious and signalled the driver to stop. During a thorough search of the car, police recovered ₹37,97,000 in cash. The discovery immediately raised concerns due to the substantial amount being transported late at night. The driver, identified as Ashutosh Agarwal, was detained and questioned about the source and destination of the money. However, he reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the purpose of carrying such a large amount of cash. Following this, the police arrested him and seized the vehicle as part of the investigation.
Authorities informed the Income Tax Department after the recovery, and the cash was handed over as per established procedures. Officials stated that the person claiming ownership of the money will be summoned and asked to provide valid documents explaining the source of the funds. If proper proof is produced, the money may be returned; otherwise, it could be deposited into the government account while the investigation continues.
