Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Tension gripped the Makhalgacha area of Hasnabad in North 24 Parganas after around 700 voters were reportedly excluded from the voter lists of three booths, sparking widespread protests on Sunday. The omission of names from booths 251, 252 and 253 under the Basirhat North Assembly constituency triggered anger among residents, who claimed that many legitimate voters had been left out of the supplementary list.
According to local sources, the name of a Trinamool Congress panchayat member from booth number 251 is also missing from the updated list, further intensifying the controversy. Residents alleged that the exclusion of such a large number of voters has raised serious concerns about the transparency of the revision process ahead of the elections. Protests escalated in the area from Sunday morning as hundreds of people gathered on the Kanthi–Malancha Road and blocked traffic by burning tyres. The demonstration led to major disruptions, with police struggling to control the agitated crowd and extinguish the fires set on the road.
Locals demanded an immediate investigation into the alleged omissions and restoration of the names of genuine voters. Many residents expressed frustration and confusion over the process, questioning where they should apply to restore their names and whether they would be able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections. The incident reflects the growing tension across several parts of the state over the issue of voter list exclusions.
