No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The Bharatiya Janata Party has approached the Election Commission with a complaint against Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, alleging that he made provocative and derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders. The saffron camp has claimed that the comments violate the model code of conduct in force ahead of the elections.
According to the complaint, Banerjee’s speech—now widely circulating on social media—contains statements that the BJP described as hateful, insulting and inflammatory. In the viral video, which has not been independently verified, the Trinamool leader is heard criticising the BJP leadership and using strong language against Amit Shah, describing members of the party as “uncivilised” and “uneducated.” The BJP has argued that such statements are damaging the party’s reputation and contributing to an atmosphere of hostility and political polarisation. In its submission to the Election Commission, the party stated that repeated remarks of this nature by Trinamool leaders are aimed at provoking tensions and tarnishing the image of the BJP and its leadership.
The party has urged the Commission to take immediate action, including directing that the video be removed from social media platforms. It has also requested that Kalyan Banerjee and other Trinamool leaders be restrained from making similar statements in the future and that appropriate legal action be taken under the relevant provisions of the election code of conduct.
