Panic spread across the City Center area of Durgapur on Wednesday after a gas pipeline supplying domestic connections suddenly burst inside the Bengal Ambuja complex. The pipeline belongs to a private company that distributes piped gas to households in the region. The rupture was accompanied by a loud explosive sound that shook the surrounding area and alarmed residents.
Following the burst, a large quantity of gas began leaking from the damaged pipeline, creating fear among local residents and people in nearby buildings. Many residents rushed out of their homes as the sound and the strong smell of gas raised concerns about a possible accident or fire hazard. After receiving information about the incident, a team from the fire department quickly reached the site and began taking precautionary measures. Officials worked to control the situation and ensure that the gas leak did not lead to any further risk in the densely populated area.
Partha Sarathi Ghosh, the officer-in-charge of the fire department, said that preliminary information suggests the pipeline may have burst while work was being carried out in the area. He added that authorities are monitoring the situation closely and, for the moment, there is no immediate possibility of further danger.
