BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Tensions were reported in Brampton after a group of Khalistani supporters gathered outside the Triveni Mandir and raised anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans. The protest, which lasted for nearly two hours, prompted heavy deployment of police forces to prevent any escalation and maintain public order in the area.
Eyewitnesses said that around 40 to 50 individuals assembled outside the temple, waving flags and holding posters while chanting slogans. Authorities created a safety perimeter and stationed police vehicles in the vicinity to ensure that devotees could access the temple without disruption. Despite the sensitive nature of the protest, no violence was reported during the incident.
The situation took a controversial turn after claims surfaced on social media alleging that participants were offered 100 Canadian dollars each to join the protest. While these claims quickly went viral and sparked widespread debate, there has been no official confirmation. Some protesters reportedly denied the allegation, stating that their participation was driven by ideological reasons.
A similar protest was reportedly planned outside the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey, but authorities did not allow the demonstration there. Meanwhile, the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice was said to be involved in organising such protests near religious sites, adding to concerns over communal sensitivities.
Community organisations and temple authorities strongly condemned the protest, stating that demonstrations outside places of worship create fear and disrupt peace. Members of the local Hindu community expressed concern over the incident, while sections of the Sikh community distanced themselves from the protesters, emphasising that such gatherings do not represent the broader community.
