High-level security review likely after Delhi Assembly breach, Speaker Vijender Gupta may take action

A high-level security review meeting is likely to be convened soon following a major breach at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, with Speaker Vijender Gupta expected to assess lapses and consider corrective action. Senior officials from Delhi Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Delhi government, along with representatives from multiple agencies, are expected to participate in the meeting to evaluate the existing security framework.

The move comes after a recent incident in which an intruder managed to breach the Assembly premises by forcing entry through a gate, raising serious concerns about the robustness of security arrangements. The individual reportedly remained inside the premises for several minutes before the situation was brought under control, exposing critical vulnerabilities despite the presence of multiple security layers.

Security concerns had already been mounting over the past few weeks, with the Assembly receiving repeated bomb threats via email during the budget session held in March. Threat messages were sent continuously over several days to official email accounts, including that of the Speaker, prompting heightened vigilance. However, the latest physical breach has intensified scrutiny over preparedness and response mechanisms.

Currently, around 44 security personnel are deployed at the Assembly complex, including 21 CRPF personnel and officers from Delhi Police. Despite this, the breach has raised questions about coordination, access control, and surveillance systems at key entry points. Officials are expected to review these aspects in detail during the upcoming meeting.

The review is also likely to focus on strengthening security protocols at all entry gates, enhancing monitoring systems, and ensuring stricter enforcement of access rules. The Speaker is expected to take a firm stance on accountability, with the meeting aimed at preventing any recurrence of such incidents and restoring confidence in the Assembly’s security infrastructure.
