No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A Nepalese national was arrested by the Shalimar Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday while travelling on the Patna–Shalimar Duronto Express under suspicious circumstances. The individual, identified as Indra Bahadur Katowal, a resident of Nepal, was stopped for questioning after his behaviour raised concerns among railway authorities.
A detailed search of his belongings revealed foreign currency totalling approximately ₹23,63,800, comprising Euros, US Dollars, and Nepalese Rupees. The accused claimed he had brought the money to India to purchase electronic goods, but he failed to provide any valid documents or proof to substantiate this claim. The large sum and lack of proper documentation prompted the GRP to take immediate action.
Due to the absence of necessary paperwork, Katowal was arrested and is scheduled to be produced before the Howrah District Court. Attempts to obtain official comments from authorities of the Kharagpur division regarding the case did not yield any clear response, leaving the investigation ongoing.
