Home voting begins for elderly and disabled voters, 5,246 to cast ballots across Bengal districts

The Election Commission has initiated a special home voting process for voters above 50 years of age and those with 40 per cent or more disability, with ballot paper voting beginning from Tuesday. The exercise will continue for two days, covering a total of 5,246 eligible voters across the district through a structured and supervised mechanism.

The distribution of such voters varies across assembly constituencies, with 521 in Pandaveswar, 606 in Durgapur, 602 in Durgapur West, 522 in Raniganj, 586 in Jamuria, 554 in Asansol South, 703 in Asansol North, 462 in Kulti, and 687 in other areas. To ensure smooth execution, 13 to 15 dedicated teams have been deployed in each constituency to complete the voting process within the stipulated time.

Each team comprises two polling officers, a micro-observer, a cameraman, four central force personnel, two state police personnel, and the respective Booth Level Officer. Polling teams reached voters’ homes from early morning, setting up voting compartments and verifying identities before collecting votes through ballot papers, ensuring accessibility and adherence to election guidelines.
